The Grand Canyon holds something very special for me. I knew it when I first saw it in 1992. I have felt it calling to me ever since.
In 2006, I rafted 277 miles down the Colorado with my husband Don. In 2007, I had the privilege of watching Pat see the Grand Canyon for the very first time when we hiked rim-to-rim. We were hooked! In 2008 we did a rim-to-rim-to-rim on our own. In 2009 we hiked for 10 days in the Canyon including a rim-to-river-to-rim in a day and 4-days exploring Havasu Canyon. We already have our itinerary planned for next year.
I want to keep going back to the Grand Canyon until I feel she is finished with me, when I have learned all I can about the Canyon and myself. I don't know when that will be, but I am in no hurry for my relationship with the Canyon to end. I hope it never does. Pat feels the same way.
If you have not seen the Grand Canyon...it is a must for all human beings. If you have seen it but have not hiked into it...that is your next step. If you have hiked in the Canyon, but have not reached the river...that is where the truth lies, where you find out more about yourself and the Canyon. Once you reach the river the first time...I guarantee you, it will not be your last.
